I am a Child of God:
But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.
My parents are pretty amazing for the first 18 years of my life they took care of me and helped me to become the woman that I am, and even after that point they still did everything they could to love and support me. When I was little I hated being called a child. I wanted to grow up and be someone who could take care of myself. But whenever I would fall my parents were there to teach me from my mistakes and then help me to pick up the pieces. They didn’t fix my problems for me, or enable me to make bad desciosns, but they helped me work through the problem on my own. Even though I am not a child anymore and I have been married, moved out of their house, divorced, and now live on my own again, my parents still love and care for me. Just this past week I was thinking about several years ago when I had a bad case of walking pneumonia and had to go to the doctor. I felt pretty horrible and really probably should not have been driving, but I am stubborn to say the least and like to be independent most of the time. On the way home though it was more than I could handle, I was sick behind the wheel and felt like I was going to possibly pass out, I was able to call my dad who followed me home from the doctor, made sure I got home okay, ad then went and picked up my medicines. The next day my mom brought me chicken soup and apple juice. Even as an adult its a wonderful thing to be someone’s child and to be loved.
We are given the opportunity to be a child of the Most High God. Its so much more than medicine and chicken soup. As much love as our earthly parents provide for us in this life, it does not even begin to compare of the love that the Lord has and still loves us with . Scripture says:
Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
Our earthly parents love and do everything they can for us. They are still human though and there is only so much that they can give. But God is God. His resources are unlimited. He can love us with infinite love, he can bestow upon us any gift that is in his will, he can bless us with anything he chooses to. He loved us so much that he sent his son to die, to pay the penalty for our sin.
If one of your loved ones was to be murdered, you would rightfully be angry and want someone to pay the penalty fo the life that was lost. Many people would not rest until justice was done. Murder can not go unpunished, as humans we know that wrong results in consequences and murder must be punished. What if I told you though that in God’s eyes all sin is like murder. To just say that people could do bad things and get away without a penalty would not justify how the Lord feels about sin. That would be like a judge letting someone walk away with murder. We would not think they were fit to be a judge. The penalty for our sins had to be paid, so the Lord sent Jesus to die and when he took the sins of the world God turned his face from him, and Jesus was left to bear our burden, but when he arose, he brought the keys to death and Hell with him, because he had defeated death forever.
Because of what Jesus did we are given the opportunity to be a child of Gods. To be adopted into his kingdom and family. All we have to do is accept. We must truly believe and surrender our lives to him, but when we do, we receive the right to be not only a child of God, but we also become an heir to his throne. The Lord will protect us and guide us . It doesn’t mean that it will be easy. Just as my life with having good early parents has not been easy, but through their guidance, wisdom, and love, I have made it through a lot of things I never should have.
God is calling us to allow him to be our Father. Will we accept? Will we let him wipe away our sins? Will we let him provide for us in his way and in his timing? Will we take his guidance and wisdom? If we will our name will be written in the Lamb’s book of Life, and can never be blotted away. We will forever be apart of the Family of God.
